Metro Lakers U15 Girls Win Bronze
Posted by Paul Wesson in Club News, Girls U15, tags: Girls U15, provincialsThe U15 girls won the Bronze medal at this year’s Provincial Championships in Halifax. The girls performed well during the round robin but came through in their most crucial game of the tournament – the last game of the round robin. A loss would have meant last place in the pool, but a win would place them in third. After a hard fought battle against the Valley Waves, the Lakers were victorious and onto the playoffs, where they continued to play extremely well surprising every team they met.
The team went on all day and met the Antigonish Stoirm for the Bronze medal game. After falling behind by as much a ten points in the fist set, the team fought back to tie the game at 23. The Stoirm won the first game, but the momentum gained by the Lakers U15 team continued and the girls won the next two set to win the match. The final results were 23-25, 25-20 and 15-11.
Congratulations to all of the girls for all of the hard work and for your success. You played well, never gave up, and made you parents and coaches proud. You really deserve to win the Bronze medal.
Carmen Swain, Michelle Crewe, Samatha Parsons, Kendra Pitre, Kristen Wilcott, Melissa Caron, Taylor Harrington – missing Laura Gray, Emilie Boone, Danielle Thompson & Dominique Monard
The big surprise of the tournament came from Kristen Wilcott who was asked to move to an unfamiliar position in order to fill a gap in left power from absent players. As a result of her excellent performance during the day, Kristen was named to the tournament All-Star Team.
